Magazine Front Covers

Title Card Research

We had to research title cards of soap trailers and research how title cards work so well and what needs to be on there. These are a few that I focused on while studying. Many ways that these title cards work so well is because they create binarys and conflict.

Soap Poster Ideas

This is a selection of ideas for our billboard/ poster with the name of our soap and taking ideas from what our soap is going to be about.

Magazine/ Title Card Work

Before starting the planning for the soap trailer we looked at tv soap front covers and made one of own. We looked into the conventions of a tv soap magazine and reasons why it attracts audienes. This was my tv soap magazine and mock up ideas of a billboard for my tv soap trailer.

Pitch of Soap Trailer

This was a pitch of a soap trailer that i made quickly with some still images from an east enders episode which had a track of a song I made.

Locations

For our soap trailer we are going to use many different locations and jump from scene to scene. The main locations we are going to film in are in Stockport. These are going to be - Hazel Grove. Grand Central Train stations,  Mersey Walk Side and Aquinas College.

Train stations- This location would be a great location to film the part of the soap trailer where the boy and girl break up because train stations have connotations with distance and journeys away. Many different shots can be taken at this location such as a tracking shot of the train, two shot of the couple, pov of each character, pov of passengers on board the train and perhaps an establishing shot. The problem with using a public train station to film at will generate noise that we dont want in the film.

Mearsy Bridge- This location is perfect for our chasing scene because of the long path and dark bridge. The bridge has graffiti on it which will attract the younger audiences which our soap trailer is all about. This location is perfect for tracking shots and POV shots.

Bedroom- This location of a bedroom is going to be used to show the scene of the boy and girl getting together. They talk and realise they like each other more intimatly. Audiences will realise that their feelings have changed for each other because of the setting and props such as the bed. POV shots and establishing shots will be perfect in this scene.

Alexandra Park- This location would be perfect to show the scenes where people are walking around and talking and socilising.

Costumes and Props

While planning our soap trailer we had to take into account the props and costumes we were going to use for the production. This was important because certain props represent different emotions and evoke different feelings. We wanted the actors to look professional and look like the characters they were playing so we used makeup and props ands setting.

The fighting scene- We needed to use dramatic makeup and dark clothing to indicate the fear and danger. Many college students wear hoodies, jumpers, jeans and joggers this means that our costumes used are the usual actor’s daytime clothes.

Props- We used mobile phones and references to social networking sites such as facebook. This suggests that we are targeting a teenage audience as many other people around this age range relate to their mobile phones and social network sites. We also used pratical props such as benches and beds and suitcases.

Previous Script

This is the script of the soap trailer that I planned to use with my class mate Jack before he became ill and had to take some time off college. I saved all the planning that I did with Jack so I could indicate to the examiners that I worked extremley hard- by changing from one group to another and dropping what I had planned and adapting to the story that the other group had. I brought some of my ideas and planning into the other group and because I had planning as a group- we used this our advantage. We took my ideas and moulded them into something similar which suited what they had already. This was my drafted script.

Start of soap trailer-

1)   entering school in a hurry and mad rush of people.
(lots of talking and different conversations)

2) " Football tonight man! You're going down!" Boys talk to each other.

3) "Yeah right- we will see... " Boys talk to each other....snickers and walks off.

4) "Please dont be positive... " Girl in toilet staring at pregency test.

5) "So when are you gonna come back to the boys and what you are actually meant to be doing instead of bedding your girlfriend all the fricken time?!" Boys break out into a fight.

6) "Ellie... I'm pregent." Girl admits to her friend as tears roll down her cheeks.

7) POV of phone- "I am callling you Mrs Cunnigham to inform you that your daugher is being excluded from school for one week for breaking the rules on conduct and vandalism." Phone call home to parents of pregent girl- she is innocent and being set up by football lads to cause tension and hope it will break the boy and girl up so friend returns.

8) "You need to believe me I didnt do it!" Girl shouts at the teachers and crys- goes to hold her belly- panics realising she shouldnt have indicated her pregency and ran from the school.

9) "I still love you." The boy admits his feelings and holds her.

Previous planning before I moved groups.

Before moving groups I researched and planned a soap trailer based on something like waterloo road or eaastenders. This was because it was easy to film something similar to these soaps within my college. I worked with a class mate called jack and we story boarded a clip of eastenders that was similar to what we were looking to make.

Setting: High School.
Plot: The camera switches between several different stories within the school. Story1) Girls and boys enter school in mad rush. 2) girls in bathroom taking pregency test- "I cant believe it." 3) Boys playing football- fight breaks out. "You arnt one of us anymore." Boy has left his mates for the girl. 4) Teacher calls home and informs parent of vadalisim. 5) Girl runs away.
Shots: Mostly POV, MCU, ECU, R.A edits.
Locations: Within college.
Actors: Friends.
Edits: Wipe out, fade.

Planning

The planning process for my soap trailer was hard because the person I initially was working with became ill so I had to then drop all my ideas and join another group and pick up their ideas. In ways this benefited me though by teaching me to become more independent and plan more.

There was certain things we had to focus on in our planning for the soap trailer such as camera shots (MCU, CU, ECU, Canted, LS, MS) and movement (Pan, tilt, track, Crane) and how the movements create meanings and feelings. Mis en scene had to be taken into account because particular locations and costumes create different meanings (location, costume, backdrop.) The props we used we things such as a mobile phone, bags, hoodys, beds ect. These were used in different scenes and different locations. Costumes that were used were normal teenage clothes suggestions of jeans and a t shirt. In the chasing scene we asked the actors to wear dark hoodys to indicate the representation of danger and youth. We used both diegetic and non diegetic sounds such as sound effects. The editing types we used are dissolves, fades, editing techniques and looked into how these create meaning and generate an emotional responce.

Ideas for Soap Poster Ideas:

These are some of the ideas for our currant soaptrailer poster. We placed our brand name on top of images of bustops and billboards.
